The soon-to-be-released Horizons expansion will feature many additions and and tweaks to the game, including fully explorable and inhabited planets, new rare materials and salvage, cosmetic items, ship-launched fighters, appearance modification (character creation), and most importantly, cockpit bobbleheads. On the horizonĮlite players still have a lot of sweet content to look forward to. It fits in well with the likes of World of Warships, Rocket League, and Counter Strike. Overall, the arena style action of CQC is sure to be a welcome addition to any gamers repertoire of instant action titles. Choosing your loadout in CQC does not cost anything. Most ranks open up new loadout slots or pieces of equipment, allowing for players to define their playstyle in a variety of ways. Protecting your flag, capturing the other team’s, defending your wingmate, or hastily chasing down your opponent before they secure a capture are all riveting experiences, and sure to keep players hearts pounding.Īround the time most players will grow accustomed to the pacing of CQC, map layouts, and engrossing hide-and-seek-esque tactics, new ship fitting options will open up to throw a curveball. While Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch offer the thrill of fast-paced constant combat, Capture the Flag provides a refreshing new novelty for Elite. Finally, each map has destructible structures that allow for unique access to various tunnels. Powerups are another major addition, giving temporary benefits such as a weapon enhancements, stealth mode, shield boost, and a speed surge.

Shields have also been tweaked in CQC, and will recharge at nearly their full strength if you can survive long enough with them down. There is a playable area akin to Battlefield - linger too long outside of it, and your ship will begin a self-destruct countdown that cancels when you return to the map. Players can form squads of up to four members ahead of time, and each mode has a 15 minute time limit. There are some basic rules to each gamemode. Both of these welcome additions pose a unique challenge in hunting your prey or hiding from your predator. While CQC’s core mechanics work much the same as regular Elite: Dangerous, there are a few neat twists: the maps are littered with asteroids and other collidable objects that do not display on the overview, and players lose their lock after their target spends a few seconds behind an object. The combat of CQC is enjoyably fast-paced, and it is easy to see expert characters hunting wisely, while new players zoom about wildly at first in attempt to survive their inevitable destruction. Out of the three game modes currently offered in CQC, the longest queue times seem to bein Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag, whereas Deathmatch seemed to kick off each time without a hitch. Interested people can read more there, and also find a video by friend of the site Scott Manley. There are three modes of arena combat including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag. The headline feature of the update, CQC (standing for Close-Quarters Combat), is an arena combat mode included with the core game - not as paid downloadable content.

In addition to new ships, new scenarios and missions have also been added to the universe of Elite. With the patch, players will also find three new playable ships, including the Imperial Eagle, Federal Gunship, and Federal Assault Ship.
